My wife Vera and I lived in Florida for 13 years before moving to Ohio a decade ago. When I was asked to share about living the Hope, I realized I don't think about it as much as I should, so I went back to the basics: if I'm born-again, I'll be at the gathering together when Christ returns. The proof I'm born-again is that I can speak in tongues, so I've started combining my prayer time with thoughts of the Hope, every time I speak in tongues, especially in the morning, I remind myself that this is proof I'm going to be there at the return with Jesus and all my brothers and sisters. My encouragement to you is simple: when you speak in tongues, remember that you are going to be at the gathering together with Jesus Christ and all of our family in the Body.
I loaned money to a patient, Mrs. Smith, to help her bring her grandchildren home, but as time passed and she struggled to repay, our relationship deteriorated and she avoided the pharmacy out of shame. When she finally came with only half the money, I felt God's peace to forgive the entire debt and handed her money back, saying I valued our relationship more than repayment. With tears in her eyes, she immediately asked, 'Where do you go to church?', recognizing God's love at work, which is my encouragement to all of us: let your light shine through love and good works so others can see and glorify our Father in heaven.
As a young girl I learned that God's Word was His will and He was faithful to perform it, including the greatest gift we received, being born again with all nine manifestations, and I later learned that the First Century Church lost the hope of Christ's return, which would be the last thing recovered. Today we're renewing that hope by living God's Word daily in this present moment, holding fast our faith without wavering, and provoking one another to love and good works as we assemble together. The day of Christ's return is approaching, whether I'm alive or not when it comes, and it will happen because God promised it in His Word, and He is faithful.
