Overcoming Rejection and Comparison
Galatians 1:10 | 2 Corinthians 10:12 | Romans 12:2
KEY VERSE
“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Galatians 1:10
Today’s Devotional
When we measure our worth by others’ approval, we open ourselves up to the fear of rejection. In the video, we heard that when we know we’re chosen by God, we are freed from the need to please people.
2 Corinthians 10:12 warns us: “Of course, we wouldn’t dare to put ourselves in the same class or compare ourselves with those who rate themselves so highly. They compare themselves to one another and make up their own standards to measure themselves by, and then they judge themselves by their own standards. What self-delusion!”
Comparison has imprisoned us to try to live someone else’s life. But Romans 12:2 calls us to stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around us, and instead be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit.
Reflect & Pray
- How might my life change if I began to see my self-worth as securely grounded in God’s unchanging love?
- In what ways might my life be transformed if I truly grasped that my deepest acceptance and value flow from God alone and not the shifting opinions of others?
- How can I embrace the unique way God made me while fully accepting the path He has chosen for me?
- By what standard do I measure myself? How can I overcome the habit of judging myself negatively and tearing myself down based on what my peers are doing?
Lord, help me to find my worth in You alone through the faith of Jesus Christ. Free me from the prison of comparison and the fear of rejection. I ask You to remind me daily that I am chosen by You, and that Your approval is the only approval I need.
Today’s Insights
God chose you before the foundation of the world. This truth transforms everything. When we understand that our identity comes from the Creator of the universe, we no longer need to compare our behind-the-scenes to everyone else’s highlight reel. We can separate our identity from others’ opinions and live as the unique person God designed us to be.
Living your God-given identity, always.
